Why More and More K-Pop Awards Ceremonies Are Being Held Abroad

Expansion of K-pop ceremonies abroad
The trend toward holding K-pop awards ceremonies outside of Korea is growing, according to Hong Hye Min of the Hankook Ilbo. Local fans express dissatisfaction with the additional costs involved, such as airfare and accommodations, but organizers continue to favor international venues for cost-effectiveness and logistical reasons.
Industry insiders say these relocations provide access to new investment opportunities and allow ticket sales to be higher. Countries like Japan, Indonesia, and Thailand, where demand for K-pop is particularly high, attract large crowds and allow higher ticket prices than in the Korean market, thus increasing profits.
Another factor contributing to this trend is the lack of large venues available in Korea and the difficulty in booking them, making it difficult to organize large events domestically. Despite recognizing the importance of holding these ceremonies in Korea, organizers often encounter practical limitations, forcing them to opt for international venues.
