The Ministry of Labor and Employment ruled that the workplace harassment allegations made by Hanni, a member of NewJeans, against the company HYBE do not qualify as "workplace harassment." This conclusion is based on the fact that Hanni does not meet the criteria to be considered an employee under the Labor Standards Act.

On November 20 KST, the Western Seoul District Office of the Regional Employment and Labor Office officially closed the complaint filed by NewJeans fans regarding the harassment allegations against Hanni.

It was clarified that workplace harassment, as defined by the Labor Standards Act, requires the perpetrator to exploit a position of authority or hierarchical relationship within the company. However, the relationship between Hanni and her manager was deemed to be that of equal contractual parties.

L'office a également fait référence à un arrêt de la Cour suprême de septembre 2019, qui catégorise les contrats exclusifs de célébrité comme des mandats en droit civil ou des contrats non nommés similaires aux mandats, renforçant ainsi la décision que Hanni ne se qualifie pas en tant qu'employée en vertu de la Loi sur les normes du travail.

Previously, in September, Hanni revealed during a surprise live broadcast on YouTube that a manager had asked another artist to "ignore her" after she greeted them in the HYBE hallways. This incident led her to testify at the National Assembly's Environment and Labor Committee hearing on October 15. On that occasion, Hanni criticized HYBE CEO Kim Joo Young, stating: "I don't think he did his best. There was no willingness to defend us or take appropriate action. I can't say he did his best." She further called for a swift resolution to the issue.

Following her testimony, a NewJeans fan filed a complaint through the People's Electronic Office, demanding a thorough investigation into the harassment allegations within HYBE.
