Girls' Generation's Taeyeon: SM Entertainment Confirms Shocking Death In Defamation Case, Reveals Major Legal Details
SM Takes Legal Measures For Taeyeon
SM Entertainment recently announced the legal steps it is taking in response to malicious comments targeting Girls' Generation's Taeyeon.
On December 3, the agency detailed ongoing legal proceedings related to defamatory posts, insults, and sexual harassment targeting the artist. SM revealed that it has collected "thousands of pieces of evidence" of these harmful activities through fan reports and internal monitoring.
Evidence was collected from a multitude of platforms, including Naver, Daum, Nate Pann, DC Inside, Instiz, MLB Park, X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Ilbe, BobaeDream, FM Korea, among others.
SM said: "Based on this evidence, we have filed hundreds of complaints with investigative authorities for crimes such as defamation and insults. We can confirm that investigations are underway for many of the identified offenders."
Two recent cases have been closed with notable results:
- "Conditional stay of the charge with obligation to attend educational sessions at the probation office."
- "Closure of the case following the death of the accused."
The company added that past cases involving minors had been resolved through apologies issued with the involvement of parents, while guilty adults had received sanctions such as fines or conditional suspensions of charges.
SM reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing these cases, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy toward malicious rumors, defamatory posts, and personal attacks against Taeyeon. They stated, "We will not show leniency under any circumstances and will do our utmost to protect our artist."
The update sparked strong reactions among netizens, who generally approved of SM's actions while expressing shock at the reported death of one of the accused.
Netizens' comments reflect great surprise and approval for SM's detailed handling of the case, highlighting the serious impact that cyberbullying can have on individuals.
