KARA’s Seungyeon Opens Up About Her Past Obsession With Being Excessively Thin, Shares Her Moving Testimony
Seungyeon's Confessions
KARA member Seungyeon recently opened up about her past obsession with maintaining an excessively thin body.
The SBS documentary, titled 'SBS Special: Bodymentary – Confessions About Weight' , which will air on December 8, highlights the stories of five iconic female stars from different eras, including Seungyeon, sharing their struggles with weight standards and body image.
These women, dubbed as the “Madonna of Korea” or the “Epitome of Idols,” were pioneers in their respective genres and eras. They share the truths they discovered after reaching their lowest points, exploring the pressures of appearance through personal anecdotes.
Seungyeon, famous for her "doll-like" features and KARA's global hit "Mister," has revealed the painful memories behind her glamorous image. To pull off low-rise pants and crop tops, she says even a small belly was unacceptable. "At my heaviest, I was 46 kg, and I lost another 4 kg before I passed out," she shared. She says she joined the show in hopes of preventing others from making the same mistakes.
Other stars also share moments of vulnerability, such as Jeon Hyo Sung who faced immense pressure to maintain his image, and Kim Wan Sun who recounts the grueling pace of his prime, just a week after a serious car accident.
These women speak of a time when, despite their brilliance, they felt the most hungry, both literally and metaphorically. They address the weight of shame associated with not hitting the "right number" on the scale, and despite the years that have passed, they note that the pressures haven't changed much, but they are now reclaiming their identities.
The personal and universal narrative of this documentary will be presented on Sunday, December 8 at 11:05 p.m.
