NewJeans Members Declare End of Exclusive Contract With ADOR in Response to Agency Lawsuit
The Clash NewJeans vs ADOR

Revolt at NewJeans against ADOR

The five members of the group NewJeans, including Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein, released an official statement in response to the lawsuit filed by ADOR on December 3, seeking to verify the validity of their exclusive contract with the group.

Read the group's full statement below.

“Hello, we are Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein. We regret having to issue this statement in a troubling context. We were recently informed of ADOR's complaint seeking to verify the validity of our exclusive contract. Unfortunately, ADOR failed to justify its position that there was no breach of contract, merely claiming that the contract could not be terminated until the company's investment had been recovered. However, we have already repaid ADOR their initial investment and generated additional profits. Despite this, HYBE attempted to downplay our achievements through smears and reverse viral tactics, and following a change in management, ADOR supported these efforts. The company, which had a duty to protect us as artists, was the one to leave malicious comments, leading to a serious breach of trust. As a result, we have concluded that remaining with ADOR could expose us to further harm. Our trust in ADOR and HYBE, who were tasked with protecting us but have repeatedly breached the exclusive contract, is now extinguished. As stipulated in the contract, we have no reason to continue working with ADOR and HYBE. The contract states that if ADOR fails to meet its contractual obligations, then the artists have the right to terminate the contract. To insist that we continue to work under these conditions, including breach of trust and contractual violations, for another five years is not only illogical but also inhumane. Previously, we had requested ADOR to take steps to correct the violations committed, offering a 14-day grace period, but ADOR did not respond to our requests. Accordingly, we exercised our right to terminate the exclusive contract by notice, and the contract was immediately terminated. ADOR's complaint is simply a necessary step to confirm whether the contract was legally terminated, and it is unfortunate that the company has used this complaint as a media game tool, to make it appear that the exclusive contract is still in effect. We would like to clarify that as of November 29, 2024, we are no longer contracted artists with ADOR. The company no longer has the right to intervene in our activities. On the surface, the company claimed to want to reconcile through dialogue, but behind the scenes, ADOR was following us and spreading false information. It was impossible not to feel horror and disgust. No matter what you throw at us, the five of us are united in our intentions, and nothing can tear us apart. Currently, we are honoring all previously agreed commitments with ADOR. But during these commitments, we have witnessed how our staff, including managers, stylists, and makeup artists, have been mistreated, interrogated or investigated, their laptops confiscated, and even reduced to tears. It is difficult for us to accept this treatment of our staff, and it is even more unbearable to think that we are not the only ones suffering from this company's unethical and inhumane practices. Although we suspect that the road ahead will be difficult, we continue to dream of the day when we can reunite with our fans through healthy promotions. We hope to achieve this dream no matter what. Despite the many issues that arose after ADOR’s management change, the company has failed to resolve them, and has made no effort to protect us from other labels who have defamed us and spread false information. It is unfortunate that after continually avoiding the issues we asked them to resolve, ADOR has decided to follow through with a lawsuit. However, we anticipate that the lawsuit will clearly reveal the conditions under which we were forced to terminate our exclusive contract and the extent to which ADOR has failed to fulfill its contractual obligations. We want to become courageous and moral people. We sincerely thank our fans for your support, and ask for your unwavering love and care in the future. THANKS."
