Painful Farewells in K-Pop

The year 2024 has been marked by heartbreaking farewells for K-pop fans, with several iconic girl groups leaving the scene. While some have officially announced their disbandments, others have left their fans in limbo by putting their activities on indefinite hiatus.

Here's a look at the groups that either disbanded or went on hiatus this year:

Cherry Bullet debuted in 2019 under FNC Entertainment and announced their disbandment on April 22, 2024, after four of the seven members terminated their contracts with the agency.

Weki Meki , created by Fantagio in 2017, released their final single "CoinciDestiny" in June this year before announcing their disbandment on August 16, 2024.

Nature , which debuted in 2018 under n.CH Entertainment, also announced its separation on April 27, 2024.

3YE , a trio formed by GH Entertainment in 2019, disbanded on November 14, 2024.

Queenz Eye , although not officially announcing their disbandment, has been on indefinite hiatus since 2024.

ALICE , which debuted in 2017, is also on indefinite hiatus following the departure of five members in 2024.

LIMELIGHT , originally formed in 2022 by 143 Entertainment, was renamed MADEIN in 2024. However, the group was marred by the departure of member Gaeun in November 2024, following allegations of sexual harassment against the CEO.

FANATICS , formed by FENT in 2018, announced its official disbandment on October 17, 2024 via Instagram.

Hash Tag , launched in 2017 under Luk Factory, has announced its dissolution on October 12, 2024.

Loossemble , formed by five former members of LOONA in 2023 under CTDENM, saw its members terminate their contracts with the agency.

Fromis_9 , who emerged from the reality show 'Idol School' in 2017 and moved to Pledis Entertainment in 2021, has announced that they will not be renewing their contract with Pledis, which was set to end on December 31, 2024.

Cignature , formed in 2020 under C9 Entertainment, has decided to disband following a unanimous agreement by the members on November 30, 2024.

Reactions from Korean fans have varied, expressing surprise and sadness at the announcements. Many lament the short duration of some groups' promotions and the harsh reality of the music industry for these young artists.
